With temperatures soaring over 100 degrees it was imperative that it was installed accurately and quickly so the concrete could be poured when the trucks arrived. Thanks to the labor savings of the Crete-Heat panels it was accomplished ahead of schedule. Tali, co-founder of buildaroo.com, discusses Warmboard with its CEO/Founder/inventor, Terry Alsberg, at the 2009 PCBC. Terry is an Architect with a physics background who, when doing a remodel of his home involving radiant floor heat, decided that the way radiant floor heating was done at the time wasn’t the right way to do it. Terry replaces a concrete base with plywood and aluminum in modular panels that can be configured to match nearly any floor plan with tongue/groove assembly. Warmboard is a solution in applications where concrete is not an ideal subfloor, such as when hardwood flooring is installed. Warmboard is used by many universities competitively during the Solar Decathlon and is a part of several winning designs. They also have customers in antarctica! When Ryan and Taisia Heyerman decided to build their first new home in Ashland, Oregon they chose to make it Earth Advantage certified. With the help of a few subs and green resources, they pretty much built it themselves! The walls are Isulated Concrete Forms (icf’s) covered by cedar with extended eves. See how their compact high efficiency natural gas water heater does the trick when used with radiant floor pect piping by heating the whole 2- story house. No ducts and no furnaces blowing and in the summer the water valve is switched and cool water cools the house for a natural a/c!
